Spanish radio station COPE claim that Atletico’s CEO, Miguel Angel Gil, met with the Lyon striker and his agent in Madrid last month and has now reached a verbal agreement with the France international. The report claims that Lacazette was impressed by the club’s plans to move into a new 67,000-capacity stadium, while Antoine Griezmann has also played a major role in Atletico’s move for the 25-year-old.
Griezmann is said to have given ‘phenomenal references’ about Lacazette’s ability to Atletico’s hierarchy and has recommended that the club sign him at the end of the season. This will be a bad news to Arsenal who chased the french man's signature through the summer. Arsenal failed with a £29.4 million bid to sign Lacazette last summer
The move is dependent on Atletico being able to overturn their current transfer ban, which is restricting them from signing players for the next two windows.
Atletico have appealed FIFA’s sanction and the Court of Arbitration for Sport will give their verdict on April 24.
