MFM Attacker, Sikiru Olatunbosun Confidents MFM can Sustain Their Impressive Run Throughout the Season

MFM FC's enterprising attacker, Sikiru Olatunbosun is optimistic his team will sustain their impressive run this term in the Nigeria Professional Football League till the end of the campaign. Olatunbosun who hugged sporting headlines across the globe after a peerless strike against league champions, Rangers on Matchday 10 spoke to www.npfl.ng after the Lagos club secured an important 1-1 draw against former champions Enyimba at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar last Saturday.

Saturday's result lifted the Fidelis Ilechukwu coached MFM to third spot on the table and Olatunbosun who has scored three times for the team this season hinged their good performances on learning from last season.

"There is nothing like a magic there," he responded when asked what the magic is for the team.

"Firstly, we don't want what happened last season to repeat itself and then we have enough motivation to do well from the management, coaches and even we the players," he added.

Previous league meetings between Enyimba and MFM have ended scoreless and the left-footed winger was grateful for the draw and most importantly for his team's goal.

"We thank God for the draw. Since we have been playing them (Enyimba), we have never scored a goal but at least we broke the jinx even if they equalized later."

MFM's goalscorer on Saturday was Stephen Odey, the league's topscorer with eight goals. Much has been said about the young striker's on-the-pitch relationship with Olatunbosun and dimunitive midfielder Chukwuka Onuwa. Sikiru in this chat emphasized their co-habitation.

"We are like brothers, like a family," he asserted. "We have been playing for so long and we do things together both in training and off the pitch so it helps our chemistry."

On his much talked about goal against Rangers and the subsequent global recognition, Olatunbosun thanked those that voted for him in the CNN Goal of The Week Award.

"As you can see, it was exciting to me," he said with an elaborate smile.

"It was great for me personally and Nigeria as a whole because such a thing has never happened in the history of the Nigerian league. So I am happy and I appreciate all my fans and all that voted for me for the opportunity."

Having escaped relegation to the Nigerian National League (NNL) on the final day of last season, Olatunbosun revealed his team's aspiration for the current league season.

"Our target is to play on the continent next year. So we want to make the top three this season. I believe by the grace of God that our target for the season would be accomplished by the end of the season," concluded Olatunbosun who will be rested for this midweek's rescheduled Matchday 9 encounter against Wikki Tourists in Bauchi.

Alexis Sanchez is just what Manchester United Need, Says Fortmer Tottenham Manager

The signing of a proven world-class forward such as Alexis Sanchez is just what Manchester United need to compete for the biggest prizes, former Tottenham manager Gerry Francis has said. Sanchez, 29, joined United on a four-and-a-half-year contract from Arsenal on Monday, 22 January, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving in the opposite direction in a straight-swap deal. "Sanchez is a real goal-scorer, he's talented and he's aggressive around the box and he makes things happen, he can pull teams through," he told Sky Sports.Francis described the Chilean forward as a match-winner who will aid United in their quest to win silverware by adding some much-needed potency to their attack. "It's [about] the present, you're looking to win trophies and looking to win competitions and, sometimes, you need to buy and have the finished article and Sanchez is certainly that. "It just makes them as a squad that much stronger. Certainly, a much bigger goal-threat with Sa...

Tiemoue Bakayoko is a Better Player than Nathaniel Chalobah, Insists Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte has been forced to defend his Chelsea transfer policy after replacing homegrown youngster Nathaniel Chalobah with the £40million signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Blues have long been criticised for favouring big-name and big-money transfers over promoting their own youth talent, and the purchase of Bakayoko whilst selling Chalobah looks to be the latest example. Chalobah, 22, played 15 games for Chelsea last season but struggled to hold down a regular place in the side before a £5m move to Watford this summer. Conte, however, insists that Bakayoko is a major upgrade given his experience of winning major honours and competing in the biggest competitions such as the Champions League. ‘I think, honestly, at this moment there is a great difference between the two players,’ Conte said. ‘You are talking about one player who has played with Monaco, who has maybe 100 appearances for that club. ‘He has played in the Champions League and has played regularly. ...
