Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Explains Alexis Sanchez’s Only Weakness

The Chilean attacker has had a superb season for the Gunners, and netted his 24th goal of the campaign to settle this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. Arsene Wenger discussed Alexis Sanchez‘s new role in Arsenal‘s 3-4-3 formation and explained what he thinks is the only real weakness to the forward’s game.

Having initially played up front for most games at the start of the season, Sanchez has shifted into more of a wide role in recent times, though Wenger feels he may has now found the best balance for him in a 3-4-3.

Drifting in from the left of a front three with the width provided by the wing-backs in Arsenal’s new formation, Wenger says Sanchez now plays a more ‘mixed’ role, though he conceded that his star player sometimes lacks focus at the beginning of matches.

‘He has been remarkably efficient and I felt he had a very good spell when he played up front,’ Wenger said.

‘When he’s on the flank he plays more as a provider. He’s in a mixed role at the moment, he can provide something special.

‘He always grows into the game. The difficulty in the game sees him grow more focus. He has the quality to make the difference.

‘Sometimes he doesn’t start well but he adapts to the difficulty but he tests and finds himself to become dangerous.’
