Italy giant AC Milan have made contact with Bayern Munich regarding a loan deal for Renato Sanches, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed. The Portuguese midfielder has emerged as the latest target for the Serie A outfit, who have so far been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market. Reports state that they are looking to agree a two-year loan deal with an option to make the move permanent for €40m, but while Bayern CEO Rummenigge confirmed talks are ongoing, he also said Milan are yet to meet the Germans' asking price.
'I can confirm that Milan have shown interest in Renato Sanches,' Rummenigge told Bild. 'But we did not get any further.
'They reported midweek. And if you borrow a player from Bayern, that also has economic effects.
'At least I have the impression that AC Milan are not ready to meet our demands. It was not just about lending. At €48million (£42m) I would not be dissatisfied.'
Sanches was one of the hottest properties last summer with Manchester United just one of many clubs interested in taking him from Benfica. While Bayern Munich won the race, he struggled to assert himself under Carlo Ancelotti.
He made just six starts in the Bundesliga and even dropped to Portugal's Under-21 squad despite playing a key role in their triumphant Euro 2016 campaign.
Backed by Chinese investors, Milan have been busy this summer and have already signed Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva, Lucas Biglia, Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez, Hakan Calhanoglu, Andrea Conti, Franck Kessie and Fabio Borini.
Reports in Italy have also linked them with a big-money move for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, who originally broke onto the European scene with their Serie A rivals Juventus.
