Antonio Conte tips Charly Musonda to Shine for Chelsea

Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda can be a success in a number of different midfield positions and as a wing-back, according to manager Antonio Conte. The 20-year-old looks set to be handed a start for the Blues against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, having found first-team opportunities hard to come by in his Stamford Bridge career so far.

Musonda spent the last two seasons on loan at Real Betis in a bid to gain experience and get more minutes under his belt, and Conte is now expecting big things from him in his first-team.

Largely used as an attacking midfielder in his career so far, Conte now made it clear he could move roles in the future, suggesting he sees him as a wing-back in the long run.

‘We’re talking about a young player with really good prospects,’ the Italian said.

‘Now it’s important that he’s working very well.

‘In my mind he could play like No.10 or like a winger and in the future he could play also as a wing-back.’

Conte has had some success with moving players into new positions, with Victor Moses one of the success stories of last season since moving from a wide-forward role to wing-back.

The Blues boss has also seen Cesar Azpilicueta shine since moving from full-back to playing centrally as part of a back three.

Antonio Conte has been forced to defend his Chelsea transfer policy after replacing homegrown youngster Nathaniel Chalobah with the £40million signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko.
