Chelsea Youngster Admits He was Close to Tears after Scoring First Chelsea Goal

Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda admits he was ‘in tears’ after scoring his first goal for the Blues in last night’s Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old has long been considered a big talent at Stamford Bridge, but has only made his first three appearances for the senior side since returning from loan this season.

Last night was Musonda’s first start for Chelsea, and he announced himself to the home crowd with a well-taken finish in an emphatic 5-1 win over Forest to send the club into the fourth round.

Antonio Conte had expected to rotate his squad for this competition, but Musonda still relished the moment and admits he’s glad his team-mates prevented him from getting overly emotional after scoring.
‘It was my first start and it was very exciting,’ the Belgian said afterwards.

‘To be honest, I was more nervous before the game. I had to wait for so long for the game to start, a 7.45pm kick-off, so when the game started I was at ease and I felt really good.

‘I was looking forward to it. I come from the Academy and it was a great experience to be able to play my first game with the first team here at the Bridge, but it’s only the first game and I have to keep on working.

‘It was an emotional moment to score my first goal at the Bridge. I can’t even remember it now! I was very happy and you could see that. I was in tears to be honest.

‘If the lads didn’t come and get me I don’t know what would have happened! It was a great moment.’

Musonda also took a moment to thank the fans for their support on what was clearly a big night in his career.

‘The fans were great tonight,’ he added. ‘They gave me an extra lift and I needed that. They were amazing.’
