Roy Keane is in no doubt that Chelsea are better off without Diego Costa, who the Manchester United legend labelled a ‘balloon’. Costa has refused to return to Cobham this season after being told by Antonio Conte that he did not have a future at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international was a key player for the Blues last term, scoring 24 Premier League goals, but Conte grew tired of his attitude. Costa was keen on a return to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window but a move back to Spain failed to materialise.
But Conte is unwilling to hand the 28-year-old a lifeline, particularly as his replacement, Alvaro Morata, has made a superb start to his career at Chelsea.
Speaking to ITV Sport, former Republic of Ireland and United midfielder Keane said: ‘Chelsea are better off without Diego [Costa].
‘The guy is big trouble and I know he has done well for them.
‘But he looks a bit of a balloon, so they should get rid of him and get players in that want to be there.’
After suffering a shock defeat to Burnley on the opening day of the new season, Chelsea have been in fine form, recording three straight league wins and smashing Qarabag 6-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Blues, who are currently third in the Premier League, welcome London rivals Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
