Ronaldo Matches His Own Unwanted Record in Real Madrid Defeat to Real Betis

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo matched his own unwanted record last night in his side’s shock 1-0 home defeat to Real Betis to continue a slow start to the season. Madrid sit 7th in the table and are already seven points behind league leaders Barcelona after winning only two of their opening five La Liga matches.

Ronaldo made his first appearance of the season in the Spanish top flight, and, incredibly, attempted 12 shots in the game without scoring.

This is the highest number of efforts from one player not to yield a goal since Ronaldo himself achieved the feat back in September 2015.

The Portugal international ended last season in stunning form as he almost single-handedly guided Real to glory in both La Liga and the Champions League.

However, Zinedine Zidane’s side already have some major catching up to do after a highly unconvincing start to the campaign.

Los Blancos will need Ronaldo firing if they are to improve, with the 32-year-old’s phenomenal scoring record playing a big role in the team’s recent success, particularly in Europe.

The Spaniard proved a clinical option from the bench last season but left in order to play more regularly, with Real now seemingly relying on Ronaldo not having too many nights in front of goal like he did yesterday.
